We Are Body, Mind, Memory, And Spirit

It seems to me that many of the people I talk to have become frustrated with their medical care. They feel that something is missing, that too many of their questions are left unanswered. They don't feel that they are being directed toward true health.

It seems to me that the model of traditional medicine is a scientifically constructed one. The type of knowledge and data that is considered valid and trustworthy by a physician must fit scientific criteria. This means that what is considered "real" must be measurable, usable, and reliable through scientific methodology. Physical conditions and their causes are studied and treated through this physically oriented system. As a result, both the causes identified and the treatments applied to heal them are purely physical. The difficulty with this perception is not that it is inaccurate, but that it is incomplete. The result of this perception is that the relationship of body, mind, memory, and spirit are not valued as having any real power or influence over the workings of the body because this relationship does not fit well into this purely physical criteria.

It seems to me that even the medical community itself is aware that this is not a complete viewpoint because there is a general agreement among health professionals that stress is a major contributor to many diseases. This seems to be a major turning point in the diagnosis and understanding of disease because it introduces the factor that emotional tension is, in fact, disruptive to the body. Unfortunately, traditional scientific medicine is not experienced at what to do about it. Holistic healthcare is the complimentary approach to the treatment of many physical conditions that has always recognized that you must treat the whole person - body, mind, memory, and spirit. We believe that it is fundamental to the treatment of a patient to know who they are, what they believe, and how well they provide for their emotional needs within the environment of their lives. Our goal is to not only free our patients from the physical condition that caused them to seek our care, but to help them to return to health - not just the absence of disease.
