Are You Spending Too Much For Healthcare? It seems to me that everyone recognizes the fact that the astronomical cost of healthcare in this country is a concern for everyone. To my mind, one aspect of the problem is that in some ways we are having trouble seeing the forest through the trees. Our conventional medical system is a technological marvel, the best in the world at dealing with life-threatening critical conditions. It's when we attempt to use only this extremely expensive technological mastery to correct simple non-critical conditions that we not only miss the mark in patient care, but also drive the bill up to amazing amounts to accomplish very little. It seems to me that over and over I hear from my patients that they have undergone thousands of dollars worth of tests, drugs, and even surgery to cure their non-critical, but very real symptoms to absolutely no avail. Even well insured people end up paying enormous sums of money out of their own pockets (20% of the cost of high-tech testing, surgery and drugs is a lot of money!) only to be told that their physical concerns are not really very serious and that they should be thankful. That's great! But they still have the problem. It seems to me that these are the very conditions that when viewed from the approach of holistic healthcare, the answer can seem almost absurdly simple. The common sense approach that examines all of the aspects of a patient's lifestyle and overall health factors can often pinpoint the cause of these conditions very quickly, and the low-tech complimentary treatments can effect a permanent change in a patient's condition and overall health at a fraction of the cost of conventional medical care.
