Nutritional Supplements Simplified It seems to me that many people are making nutritional supplementation just way too hard. This is unfortunate from many standpoints, but what really stands out for me, is that with so much conflicting information and totally useless products being thrust at us constantly, many people have just given up trying to figure it all out and aren't doing anything significant to ensure that their bodies are properly nourished. In a country that spends over a trillion dollars a year on disease care that seems awfully sad, and not a little frightening. Especially when you realize that fully 6 out of 10 reported causes of death in this country can be linked to dietary factors. It is very true that nearly all of the foods conveniently accessible, attractively packaged, fast and easy to serve, and memorably advertised are a far cry from what our bodies are intended to eat. It seems that medical research is just starting to figure all of this out and so many manufacturers are jumping on the nutritional bandwagon and promoting products that are wonderful today and discredited tomorrow. Who has the time or money to stay on top of all of this? It seems to me that what we were originally intended to eat is whole foods, with all of the natural nutrients still in place, not the way we eat today. But things have changed, we don't have time to forge in the woods, and even if there was anything good left to eat out there, we wouldn't know what to do with it anyway. So, we do need to supplement our diets, in the natural, unrefined way that nature intended. This does not mean dozens of costly pills that have to be taken on a strict daily regimen. Many of the vitamins, minerals, and herbs readily available today are themselves over refined, heat processed, and coated with indigestible materials. The quality of the processing of nutritional supplements is not well regulated in this country and most manufacturers do what is cheapest for them - not best for you. It seems to me that many people have been missing the point about nutrition in general. The process of breaking down and separating nutrients from each other and from their natural state is exactly what renders them useless to us. When high heat and harsh chemicals are used in this processing the natural enzymes and cellular structure of the nutrients are affected. They are no longer an absorbable food that your body can utilize effectively. A supplement will proudly say that it has been not heat treated and not chemically treated right on the bottle if this is true. The supplements used in our office have been carefully selected from the multitude of products available, and there are other good ones out there. It can be challenging to find them, but well worth it. |
