Digestive Problems It seems to me that digestive problems can seem to rule your whole life. The inconvenience and embarrassment of not being able to eat what everyone else is being served, having to eat at certain times, trying to follow a specific unappetizing diet and then suffering pain and distress anyway seems so unfair. It seems to me that the usual diet and drug based treatments are not actually curing the cause of the problem and can often make it worse. Antacids do stop the overproduction of stomach acid but they also encourage an environment perfect for the bacterial infections that cause ulcers. Irritable bowel sufferers are given sedatives and told to avoid fruits and vegetables, thus depleting their intake of these vitally important foods. Constipation is a very dangerous long term condition that can lead to body toxicity, a colon environment ripe for cancer, and a laxative habit that is ever increasing. It seems to me that the more logical approach would be to ask what is actually causing the patient's body to be having so much trouble with this perfectly normal and necessary function. A treatment plan that is based on this concept, rather than just managing the symptoms, along with education on how digestion actually works, would be of great benefit to anyone suffering digestive problems. To make them more comfortable, we could add natural enzymes to the diet to help break down food and aid digestion and absorption. Alkalizing the system will reduce toxicity and relieve stress and acidity. A natural self-help program can be developed to the individual needs of each patient so that a healthy comfortable balance can be achieved in the digestive process, and indeed, in the whole lives of these patients. |
