A New Approach To Back And Neck Pain

It seems to me that back and neck pain brings more people to our office than any other single problem. Most of these patients have been to at least on other doctor in a different field of healthcare for their condition. Their pain may have been diagnosed as slipped disc, lumbago, arthritis, neuritis, pinched nerve, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, strain, or some other condition. Although having a name attached to a problem can be satisfying, most people are primarily interested in feeling better. They want the cause of the pain and loss of function relieved quickly and permanently.

It seems to me that quite often after a diagnosis has been made, these patients have been told that nothing can be done about it, or surgery would be the only solution - but there are no guarantees, or that they will need continuing treatments with no end in sight. This can be true when the problem is approached from the viewpoints of some medical fields. It seems to me that they know that pain killing drugs simply mask the pain and do nothing to relieve its cause. These drugs can actually add to the problem because the cause, untreated, can get worse. Muscle relaxants work on all of the structural muscles in the body, not just the specific painful areas. This can leave weak areas unprotected against further injury.

It seems to me that holistic healthcare delves into many different aspects of a condition and uses a totally different approach that can quite often bring substantial relief from pain and dysfunction. This gentle, non-invasive treatment is based on correcting all of the causes of pain and relieving stress and imbalance contributing to the problem. This therapy is specifically designed to help soft tissues heal and to meet the needs of patients not responding to other treatments.
