THE HOLISTIC APPROACH

 OUR PHILOSOPHY

Dr. Marianne Hoyle, the primary care physician at Family Wellness Institute, is a holistic practitioner. Utilizing her training as a Palmer graduate licensed chiropractor, along with her continuing post-doctoral studies at Morter Health Center in Rogers, Arkansas, the Health and Wellness Center in Alexandrian, Virginia, and the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, she has dedicated herself to bringing to Central Illinois the newest and most effective forms of natural integrated healthcare.

Family Wellness was created with the intent of enabling our patients to achieve the goal of taking control of their health. This is accomplished through the treatment of injury and disease, education on how the body, mind, memory, and spirit function for your health, and the philosophy that optimum health is both the personal responsibility and the right of each of us.

Contrary to popular view, we do not believe that the human body is a machine and that doctors should be “mechanics” that make repairs to broken parts. We believe that human bodies are wondrous, multi-faceted, multi-dimensional creations that were designed to heal themselves. We believe that we, as health care providers, should work with all of the parts as a whole, and help to create balance in the body so that healing can happen as it should. If you doubt that you possess these self-healing powers, think about what happens when you cut your finger or catch the flu. You heal. You may feel the need to wrap the cut with a band-aid or take medication to suppress symptoms of the flu, but you would heal without these things just as well. The innate healing powers that each of our bodies possess are far greater than that of any pharmaceutical company’s drug or doctor’s skill. They are far greater than anything that we can invent through scientific knowledge or technological ability. We possess healing powers that are nothing less than miraculous.

Today, new scientific paradigms are replacing old views that have been the foundation of medical science for the last few hundred years. They are changing the way that we are able to understand the human body, and, in fact, are changing the way that we understand the world. Interestingly, many of these scientific findings, which are new to us in the Western world, support what non-European cultures have been claiming to be true for ages. This emerging worldview deals with parts of our environment that are not dense enough for most of us to see or touch, but are no less as real as those which we can. The presence of an energy field in and around the human body, and the recognition that thoughts and emotions are as tangible as our physical body with real substance and power in out lives, are some of the truths that are being brought to light by new scientific philosophies and technologies. These facts have been studied by some Western scientists for years, but recent abilities to prove them are resulting in their slow, but widespread, acceptance among the medical community. Well-known and respected physicians such as
M. Ted Morter, D.C., Deepok Chopra, M.D., Richard Gerber, M.D., Candace Pert, Ph.D., Andrew Weil, M.D., Caroline Myss, Ph.D., and Christiane Northrup, M.D., all work to educate the public through books and lectures about this exciting future of medicine.

This new worldview is really not very different from the old view; the field of vision has simply expanded. The old view understands the world as various forms of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. The new paradigm recognizes the world as energy that may take innumerable forms. This energy may take form as solid, liquid, gas, or other forms that are even less dense than gas. These forms are not easily detectable with our five senses, and we are just beginning to learn how to detect them with technology. For lack of a better term, these forms are simply referred to as “energy”, as they have not taken on a recognizable form of matter. Nevertheless, we are able to know that they are there, just as we accept their existence. Really, “matter” and “energy” are different terms that define the same thing. According to the new worldview, everything is energy, including matter. Matter is simply energy that is condensed enough that we can touch, hear, see, smell, or taste it. When you hear the term “energy” in our clinic, we are referring to non material substance.

OUR “FIELD”

Having explained that, we can explain the energy field and how, working with our field, can restore health in our body. All living creatures have both a physical body and an energy body. You may have heard of the term “aura”. This work commonly carries a mystical connotation, and you probably never expected your physician to be discussing your aura with you, but that is exactly what we are talking about. However, we will refer to it as your “field” and hope to make the concept more comprehensible to you than references to auras that you may have heard in the past. Your field extends out beyond your skin for several feet in all directions, including above and below you. Your field is like a giant eggshell that protects you much in the way that your immune system or your skin does, filtering out things that you cannot even see. It also contains all of the information about you. It is easy to conceive of your field as your perfect, invisible twin, or your God-presence. Your field was with you in the womb and provided the information necessary for you to grow and develop. It is always with you and contains all of the information necessary for your body to grow, heal, and function every day. When you cut your finger, your field remains intact with all of the information of your perfect, healthy finger, and your cells re-grow using this “blueprint”. Your field and your body are completely interconnected. Everything that happens in your field will affect your body and vice versa. Perhaps more often than not, illness begins in our field before it happens to our body. Therefore, as long as we are only treating the physical body, whether we are using conventional or alternative methods, we are still not addressing the root of the problem. Here at Family Wellness Institute, we work with the whole being and look at stresses that may be interfering with the perfect functioning of the body, mind, and field. We then try to remove those stresses so that the body can heal as it was designed and you can experience optimum health.

We call illness in our field “interference”. Interference can be the cause of illness in your physical body, and it can slow down or block the healing process even if it is not the direct cause of the problem. Allow yourself to conceive of emotions as energy that we can feel, but cannot see. Imagine them as very transparent forms of matter, such as light or gas. Emotions should move through us. However, for various reasons, they may become stuck in our fields and in our bodies. Interference is created by these stuck emotions. By enabling these emotions to move as they should, we can improve communication between the field and the body, restoring balance and health.

THE HEALING PROCESS

Healing is our innate ability. It is our natural state of being. We can all experience healing if we are willing to receive it. All that is necessary for healing is awareness, willingness to change, and faith in the process.

As previously stated, it is important to first know where we are and where we are going before embarking on a new journey. Allowing ourselves to pause and just experience our current state with an open heart and mind allows us to learn the lesson we need so that we are able to move forward without repeating the same mistakes again. If we do not allow ourselves to do this, as uncomfortable as it may be, we are more likely to keep returning to the same situation. Awareness is an invaluable part of the healing process.

In order to change your physical, mental, and emotional state, you must also be willing to make some changes in your outlook and how you value and treat your body. With this practice, you will learn how to make positive changes, and you will be supported as you make those changes. You simply have to be ready and willing to let go of those aspects of your life that are no longer serving you, and adopt new ones that will. You have the power to stay the same person by repeating the same thoughts and habits, or to become someone with different, healthy characteristics. In every moment, the opportunity to become a new person is at your grasp. You can make the choice to make positive changes.

Once you have made these changes, stop worrying and have faith in the process. You have already been given the ability and the opportunity to be completely healthy and fully alive. You have simply to live in such a way that will allow your body to function as it should, and allow you to be true to yourself. Envision the healthy, whole person that you are becoming and wait for it to become a reality. Just let healing happen.
